Watch: Are OT tools really all that different from IT?

Presented @ S4X25 by Eric Forner, CTO & co-founder of Armexa

Why can’t tools that have been battle-tested in robust IT environments work just as well in OT? Is an on-premise OT DMZ environment truly the most secure place to host OT security management tools, or is SaaS a more secure environment? Many technology categories, such as firewalls, remote access, file transfer, network monitoring, and endpoint security have released OT specific offerings that claim to solve specific problems related to OT and industrial environments. Eric dives into the OT cybersecurity technology stack within every level of the Purdue Model and investigated whether OT fit-for-purpose or IT technology may make more sense. He identifies where IT technology starts to give inadequate protection and OT specific technology becomes the better choice.

As the technical leader at Armexa, Eric shapes the company’s strategic direction by identifying, developing, and implementing advanced security technologies and architectures for industrial control systems (ICS) and operational technology (OT). He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Control Systems Engineering, specializing in ICS/OT cybersecurity. His areas of expertise span security operations and engineering, industrial network architecture, and plant floor systems integration. Eric’s broad technical background includes hands-on experience with technologies across process control, building automation, and enterprise IT environments.
